We’re convinced that specialization is the key for obtaining an high level result. Most photographers are now able to cover every aspect of a shooting: from preproduction to postproduction.
There’s a problem by the way. We think that’s not enough: you need to specialize in a specific field.


Not every genre of photography share the same problems and needs. Only by understanding perfectly the environment and the context of what you’re producing, you can organize and realize a shooting in the right manner.
As far as we are concerned, only who knows the mountain can convey it.

Would you ever contact a generic doctor for a specific problem?
Okay, maybe we went too far, but you get the idea. Going in the mountains requires being able to move in the environment, having the proper gear, knowing how to evaluate risks and dangers, and the knowledge of the mechanics and the language of the mountain sports. Shooting in the powder, on a crest or on a climbing wall requires all this. A specific knowledge.

We don’t do anything else because we know that we don’t have that specific knowledge of other fields, we gave up! We do only this.
We would like to explain to you how we manage our shootings. Let us introduce you the “OUTDOOR CODE”. The 7 points that defines our way of working.


Here are a few things we consider while preparing for a shooting.

1.  Location: We evaluate and suggest the location that best fits the period and the kind of images required.
2.  Models/actors: if necessary, we look for the most suitable athletes for that shooting, between the people we frequently work with.
3.  Risks evaluation: we decide the timetable for the shooting, according to the light conditions, weather and risks. We decide when to leave and when to come back (we’re won’t lie: we're not omniscient. Risks in the mountains are everywhere and making an evaluation is tricky. We don't hesitate to contact experts and mountain guides with which we collaborate in order to have a professional and updated advice). Sometimes, we have to give up and postpone the shooting. You don't mess with the mountains!
4.  Gear: according to the type of shooting, we decide what kind of equipment we need. For a commercial shooting, for example, we might need lighting equipment, mics and audio recorders, cameras, lenses and so on. On the other hand, for a climbing expedition it's better to move fast and light by bringing only the bare essentials.
5.  Moving in the mountains: if so required we move independently in the mountains: we don't always need helicopters or snowmobiles. We leave and come back with the images: no big deal.
6.  Safety: we know the safety gear and how to move in the mountains, avoiding useless risks.
7.  Talking to the athletes: since we practice this sports we know how to talk to the athletes. We understand what they do and we know the right vocabulary for communicating with them. We always try to create a link and cooperation.

How beautiful was it when you had to actually be really able to take photos! Now, with Photoshop, everyone is capable!
Or maybe not?

Maybe not. We do not think so. We must aknowledge that post-production is a fundamental part of the digital photographic process and who denigrates it, probably does it because he can't do it.
Every good photographer should know that nowadays it is crucial to orient every aspect of the shooting phase to post-production.

A good editing can save a mediocre image as well as exalting a fantastic one, whoever tells you the opposite has never digged into it, and probably does not even know a bit of the history of photography. Yes, because the great photographers of the old days were MASTERS in the dark room, they manipulated the images like mad and came up with all sorts of photo retouch. With the few means they had available, they were wizards.

It is very often thought that post-production is a tool used by those who do not know how to shoot. Actually, many images hide a huge potential that needs to be understood and exploited. The duty of any good photographer is to foresee the end result in a scene, to watch the world with Photoshop's eyes!

Post-production is not altering reality, the work that we at Outdoor Studio do on images is on contrast, tone and color. We do not take or add anything, we work on the information the images contain, hidden between the bits.
Just look at the examples below to figure out to what extent seemingly flat shots can be transformed.

Since we understood its importance we invested a lot of time and resources to achieve the highest level of expertise and technical skill.
In addition to our university study, we participated in many advanced workshops on RAW file development, color correction, grading, processing and retouching of the image. Online and offline, in Italy and abroad. 

Together we can study a look for the images that relate to your company and carry it forward every time.
Any non wisely post-produced photo is a wasted opportunity.
